A routine welfare check on a stranded motorist led to a drug arrest on County Road 8390 on October 27, according to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office.
Corporal Travis D. Weaver responded to a report of a truck stopped in the roadway with a woman outside shining a flashlight. The woman, identified as Tiffany King of West Plains, told the officer her vehicle had broken down. A records check revealed King had three active warrants from the West Plains Police Department and was currently on parole for a prior drug offense.
After placing King under arrest, Weaver obtained consent to search the vehicle. A glass smoking device containing a thick white crystal residue was found in a black glasses case beneath the driver’s seat. King denied ownership of the pipe, stating only her purse and makeup bag belonged to her.
While retrieving personal items from the truck, King requested a hairspray canister, which was found to have a white crystal residue on its base. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
At the sheriff’s office, both the pipe residue and the material from the hairspray canister were tested using a TruNarc Analyzer and confirmed to be methamphetamine. The total weight of the substance was approximately 0.24 grams.
King is facing charges for possession of a controlled substance.
