The City of Ava made an announcement yesterday stating that they will not be renewing the contract with a local organization involved with the Ava Community Center. The full announcement can be read below.
To our valued residents,
After careful consideration and extensive discussion, the Board of Aldermen has decided not to renew the lease contract with the Douglas County Council on Aging for the use of the Ava Community Center, effective June 30, 2026.
While this marks a change in operations, the City of Ava remains deeply committed to our senior population. This decision stems from our desire to move in a new direction that ensures the Community Center reaches its full potential as a vibrant hub for every member of our community.
We are excited to share that the City is looking forward to expanding services to create a truly multi-generational space, including:
•Enhanced Senior Programming: Providing continued and diversified support for our elder residents.
•Youth Engagement: Introducing new activities and dedicated spaces for Ava’s younger generations.
•Organizational Support: Offering greater access for local community groups and nonprofits.
We want to sincerely thank the Council on Aging for their years of dedicated service. We look forward to welcoming you all to a revitalized Community Center this summer as we work together to grow these essential services.
Sincerely,
The Ava Board of Aldermen
