Investigators say Powell’s responses during the interview closely aligned with the details shared by the victim. Following the interview, deputies attempted to place Powell under arrest. According to the affidavit, he resisted arrest, requiring multiple deputies to restrain and detain him.

Once in custody, Powell reportedly asked why he was being detained and was told it was for deviate sexual activity with a minor, to which he allegedly responded, “It was only once.”

Charges Filed Against Powell Include: Two counts of rape (Class Y felonies – the most serious charge in Arkansas not punishable by death), Three counts of second-degree sexual assault, Two counts of sexual indecency with a child, One count of employing or consenting to the use of a child in a sexual performance (related to the presence of a second minor during the incident), and One misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

The case remains under investigation. Powell remains in custody, and formal proceedings will be handled through the Izard County Circuit Court.

Law enforcement has not released additional details, citing the sensitivity of the case and the ages of those involved. As with all criminal cases, Powell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
