Mayor of Thayer Addresses Citizens on Upcoming City Audit and Commitment to Transparency

Thayer, MO – In a message released this week, Thayer Mayor Donna Martin addressed residents directly, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in city governance. The statement follows recent developments within city operations and outlines key actions being taken to address outstanding issues.

During an emergency closed council meeting held on May 17, the Thayer Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to engage an independent auditor to begin a comprehensive review of the city’s financial records. The audit will cover several past years that had not previously been audited, according to Mayor Martin.

“In order to maintain my promise of transparency to you all, the great citizens of Thayer, I want to inform you of some recent issues that have come to light in our city,” Martin stated. “Please bear with us and understand that this will take time as we work to bring everything into compliance with the State of Missouri—and most importantly, with the citizens of Thayer.”

Mayor Martin emphasized that she and other elected city officials will work closely with the independent auditors to ensure the process is thorough and that full audit reports will be shared with the public as they become available.

The mayor also took the opportunity to commend city staff for their hard work and responsiveness in addressing the situation.

“I am very pleased with their response and desire to correct and maintain city business in compliance with state requirements,” she said. “As mayor, I will work to see that our employees are appropriately educated and trained with respect to Missouri Statutes, in addition to training provided by the Missouri Municipal League.”

This message marks a proactive step in the city’s efforts to rebuild trust and ensure compliance with state laws governing municipal operations.

For updates on the audit process and other city matters, residents are encouraged to follow official announcements from the City of Thayer.
