Ava Woman Charged with Harassment and Trespassing

A neighborhood dispute on North Jefferson Street took a serious turn Monday afternoon when police responded to reports of trespassing, harassment, and property damage involving two residents.

At approximately 12:07 p.m., Officer Wright (DSN 434) was dispatched to 505 N. Jefferson Street following a call from a local business owner who claimed her neighbor, Leanna Marlin of 603 N. Jefferson, had repeatedly harassed her both at home and at her place of work. The reporting party alleged that Marlin refused to leave the premises when asked and had caused significant damage to a privacy fence recently installed on her property.

According to the complainant, Marlin chipped away at the concrete post supporting the fence, removed screws using a claw hammer, and entered the business while the owner was tending to a client. Witnesses, including a customer identified as Wilderson, confirmed that Marlin was yelling about the fence and refused to leave despite being asked multiple times.

The business owner stated she had constructed the fence exactly 12 inches inside her property line, a claim supported by Officer Wright, who observed the property marker and confirmed the fence was within legal boundaries. Marlin reportedly claimed the fence was illegal, asserting that someone “higher up than you that’s over the city” had told her so, though she refused to provide a name. Officer Wright informed Marlin that she could face legal consequences for trespassing and damaging property.

The estimated damage to the fence is $800. The ongoing harassment has reportedly caused emotional distress to the victim.

Charges include first-degree property damage. first-degree harassment and first-degree trespassing.
