West Plains, MO. – Black History Month is just around the corner, coinciding with the month of February, and the Lincoln School in West Plains will be holding three presentations during the time, giving locals a chance to partake.
Tonya Oaks gives us more information:
The first presentation in their Black History Month series of events will be put on by Michelle Brookes, and is titled “First to Freedom: Cole County US Colored Troops”, detailing the events around the black population who served the military in Cole County. This will happen February 7th from 11am to 12:30pm.
Then, on February 21st, a Saturday, from 3pm to 5pm. This presentation is a quilting event called “The Threads that Bind”.
Lastly, from 10am to 11:30am, on Saturday, February 28th, “Slavery in Minnesota and its Ties to Missouri” will take place.
