Marion County Law Enforcement Joins Nationwide ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ Campaign

MARION COUNTY, Ark. — The Marion County Sheriff’s Department will participate in the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign beginning Friday, August 15, and continuing through Monday, September 1, as part of an effort to curb impaired driving and reduce crashes during the busy Labor Day holiday period.

The campaign, coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), brings together local and state law enforcement agencies across the country to increase patrols and enforcement.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the Labor Day holiday often sees a spike in drunk-driving fatalities, making enforcement efforts critical. The campaign not only focuses on catching impaired drivers but also on educating the public about the risks and consequences of driving under the influence.

Safety tips from the Sheriff’s Department:

  • Plan a safe, sober ride home before you start drinking.

  • Never let someone who has been drinking get behind the wheel.

  • If hosting an event, ensure guests have a sober ride home.

  • Report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.

  • Always wear your seat belt—it’s the best defense against impaired drivers.
