Jerry Wayne Gibbons was born December 6, 1947, in Springfield, Missouri, to Bretna Andrew and Hazel Evelyn (Cearley) Gibbons. He departed this life on May 30, 2025, at his home in Willow Springs, Missouri at the age of 77.
He was united in marriage to Jackie Stults and together they raised three children. He was later married to Janie Coatney, who preceded him in death.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart for an injury he received during the war.
Jerry was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his career. He also worked in the construction industry.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, B.A. and Hazel Gibbons; brother, Cecil Gibbons; his wife and mother of his children, Jackie Kay Batesel; son, Danny Joe Hicks; and wife Janie (Coatney) Gibbons.
Survivors include his children, Carl (Bev) Hicks of Willow Springs, MO, and Wendy Willard (Jeremy) of Willow Springs, MO; sister, Carolyn Bunch of Mountain Grove, MO; grandchildren, Jerod (Kelsey) Hicks, Joel (Chelsea) Hicks, Joshua Hicks, Lindsey (Preston) Hyde, and Jake (Shelby) Wood; and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Finlee, Cooper, Cora, Hattie, Hayden, Nora, Brooks, Piper, Presley, and Rylea.
Jerry enjoyed playing poker and golfing. He liked sitting around the campfire at deer camp and eating with friends and family. He loved to aggravate all the girls in the family and even some he didn’t know!
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Willow Springs City Cemetery, Willow Springs, Missouri with David Lovan officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
