Funeral services for Roland L. Woods Sr, Age 97 of Ava, Missouri will be Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM, in the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava, Missouri with full military honors to follow. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 AM to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Forest Hills Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Fred Mills. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Homes, Inc., Ava, Missouri.
Rolland L. Woods Sr., 97 years, 6 months, and 22 days old, passed away on July 14, 2025, at his house in Ava, Missouri, with his family by his side.
Rolland was born December 23, 1927, in Independence, Missouri, to LeeRoy and Bessie (Kersnick) Woods.
Rolland was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during WWII as a cook aboard a ship. He served in the Pacific Theater and received the WWII Victory Medal. He served his country for 4 years.
Rolland and Ione Valentine were united in marriage on November 22, 1947, in Independence, Missouri. They were married for over 65 years until her passing in 2012.
He was a meat cutter for Safeway Food Stores for 28 years. Rolland was a Boy Scout leader for several years. He was also a deacon in his church at Patterson Baptist Church in Anderson, Missouri.
Rolland enjoyed gardening. He leaves behind many friends and family. He was always ready to help neighbors and others.
Rolland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ione; siblings, Alice Boten and Richard Woods; son-in-law, Kenneth James Smith; and daughter-in-law, Linda Woods.
Rolland is survived by his son, Rolland L. Woods, Jr.; his daughter, Sharon Smith; grandchildren, Dan and Melissa Smith, Aaron Woods, Chris and Kristi Smith, and Wes and Karen Smith; great-grandchildren, Serena, James, Carena, Kaylee, Hondro, and AJ; and many other relatives and friends.
