Nolan Gorman delivered a clutch RBI single in the seventh inning, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs and sealing their three-game series Sunday night.
With two outs in the seventh, Jordan Walker singled, stole second, and came home on Gorman’s line drive to right, chasing Cubs starter Shota Imanaga (8-5) from the game. Imanaga struck out nine and didn’t issue a walk over 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Sonny Gray (11-5) earned the win with seven solid innings, giving up two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. JoJo Romero worked the final 1 1/3 frames for his third save, navigating a walk and two singles in the ninth to shut the door.
Oliver Marmol says a big hit from Nolan Gorman to give St Louis the lead and alert baserunning by Jordan Walker were key to the victory.
