Game Audio Below:
The Liberty Eagles hosted the St. James Tigers on Friday night. This being their first home game of the season and uniquely this week as many other area teams traveled away. With much of the same offensive fury and defensive finesse, The Eagles now have swept two teams back-to-back as they pick up a 42-0 win tonight.
1st Quarter: Kick caught at the 12-yard line. Eagles will have the ball, and first offensive play will be made by Jasper Melby. Eagles were able to get a good punt and found. Some clever offensive moves allowed Parker Tune to go in for the first Eagle touchdown and put them on the board first, 6-0. On the St James end, The Tigers get several extracurricular penalties. Some of these were misunderstood early on and required some discussion between the refs and coaches. As the quarter remains, Eagles keep the 6-0 lead.
2nd Quarter: In the first 6:20 of the Quarter, Liberty keeps the 6-0 but begins to fall asleep a bit offensively. St James however is also having issues moving the ball as they only have moved the ball about 32-yards. Momentarily, the Football goes loose but it goes out of bounds. The wet ground and misty weather conditions also made this quarter tough, Finally the ball goes loose and Parker Tune steps on it and gets it in for the next Liberty kickdown with the two-point conversion and on-side kick good by Sophomore, Wyatt Cox. Eagles have some better luck with plays towards the end of the Quarter. While most either get flags or go out of bounds, there is much more speed than at the start of the quarter. After some final short offensive plays, Eagles hold the lead 14-0 at the Half.
3rd Quarter: First points of the 2nd half scored by Jaren Rutledge and a good kick by Parker Tune. St James assumes 1st and 10 upon their next down. While the story for St James is much similar, Eagles begin to face holding calls and now two called back touchdowns. But finally, Eddie Rodriguez assumes a wide-open position and makes it in for eight more with Jasper Melby good for the extra point, this makes it 20-0. This is later followed by a good run by Jaren Rutledge, his first of the season with a good kick by Parker Tune. Make these 28 points with another wide-open run by Parker Tune and another good kick by Jasper Melby. St James still with hardly any luck in picking up yards.
4th Quarter: Less than two minutes into the Final quarter of play, another wide-open play by Senior, Matt Bushong. St James by this point continues to be brought down easy by The Eagle defense. Parker Tune runs in two more plays to give the Eagles another sweep by Parker Tune as the game is secured by a Final Score of 42-0.
SCA Play begins next week as the Eagles will travel to play 2-0, Thayer Bobcats. Catch the Broadcast @ 7 with Pregame preceding @ 6:00 on The Fox 96.9.
