According to a probable cause statement, the victim told deputies that Edward L. France reached through her dog door to unlock the front door, entered her home without permission, and attacked her while she was asleep. She reported being hit, choked, and said one of her teeth was knocked out. Deputy Dennis Cunningham wrote that he observed “blood coming from her mouth and a huge bump on her right cheek” and noted redness around her neck.

The victim told deputies France threw her phone at her, struck her with a collapsible baton, and blocked the doorway when she tried to escape. She declined medical treatment but completed a written complaint and sought an ex parte order.

France was later detained in Mansfield, where deputies recovered a collapsible baton from his vehicle. He was taken to the Wright County Jail.

He is now held without bond on charges of burglary, two counts of assault, and armed criminal action. France is scheduled to appear in court March 23rd.
