Lt. Governor David Wasinger Launches Official Buy Missouri Route 66 Guide

JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Following a visit to the birthplace of Route 66, Missouri Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger today announced the release of the Buy Missouri Route 66 Guide, a new resource designed to connect travelers with Missouri-made businesses along the historic corridor.

Unveiled in Springfield, the city where the name “Route 66” was first proposed by telegram in 1926, the guide celebrates the road’s 100-year legacy while spotlighting the entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and artisans who define Missouri’s economy today.

During his visit, Lt. Governor Wasinger met with local business owners featured in the guide and emphasized the importance of the “Missouri leg” of Route 66 as both a cultural landmark and an economic engine stretching from St. Louis to Joplin.

“Starting here in Springfield, where this iconic road was born, we are sending a clear message: Missouri craftsmanship is the heartbeat of America,” said Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger. “This guide invites travelers to Stop, Shop, and Support the businesses that power our communities. Every dollar spent at a Buy Missouri business is an investment in Missouri families, workers, and our future.”

The guide features 12 signature stops across the state, highlighting a wide range of Missouri industries:

  • Springfield Favorites – Local staples such as Springfield Brewing Company and Hold Fast Brewing, continuing a proud tradition of craftsmanship
  • Ozark Hospitality – Experiences like Ozark Farms and Prairie Barn Winery, showcasing Missouri-grown products and rural tourism
  • Artisan Goods – Handcrafted products from businesses like Herbaria in St. Louis and Kent Jewelry in Rolla
  • Statewide Industry – Major manufacturers including Quaker Windows in Freeburg and agricultural producers such as TOBB Products in Lebanon

The Buy Missouri Route 66 Guide is part of the state’s broader effort to celebrate the Route 66 Centennial while strengthening local economies. Since its launch in 2017, the Buy Missouri program has grown to include more than 670 businesses committed to producing goods within the state.

“As we welcome visitors from across the country and around the world during this historic anniversary, we invite them to experience the quality, pride, and innovation that define Missouri-made products,” Wasinger added.

The guide is available for download at Buy Missouri Route 66 Guide and at Missouri welcome centers statewide. Travelers are encouraged to share their journey using #BuyMO as they explore Route 66 from St. Louis to Joplin.
