Judith “Judy” Ann (Donaldson) Oberbeck, daughter of the late Alvin Donaldson and Velda Smith, was born April 3, 1942, near Saint Louis, Missouri, and departed this life August 30, 2025, at Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, Missouri, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 27 days.
In Judy’s early childhood, her parents separated. Her mother remarried Claude Mingus, and together they raised her. The family lived briefly near Saint Louis, Missouri, before moving to Claremont, Oklahoma. In her 6th-grade year, Judy moved to Seymour, Missouri, where she spent the rest of her life. She graduated from Seymour High School and was crowned Homecoming Queen!
After graduating from high school, Judy was united in marriage to Lewis Trapp, and they were blessed with three children. However, life took them in different directions, leading to a divorce. Several years later, while working at Hutchins Industries, she met Dean Oberbeck. After playful pranks, teasing, and dates, marriage naturally followed. On October 3, 1993, they were married. This union blessed her with two “bonus” children.
Throughout Judy’s career, she worked for several local manufacturers, including HD Lee in Seymour, the shoe factory in Mansfield, and Hutchins Industries in Seymour, where she eventually retired. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and cooking. Judy became a Christian at a young age and remained a devoted believer throughout her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Donaldson and Velda (Smith) Mingus, her stepfather, Claude Mingus, and her brother, James Donaldson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Dean Oberbeck of the home, one son, Steven Trapp, of Seymour, Missouri, two daughters, Rebecca Ann Phillips and her husband, Greg, of Seymour, Missouri, and Deborah Sue Merchant and her husband, Frank, of Ozark, Missouri, two stepsons, Ron Oberbeck and Richard Oberbeck, both of Seymour, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way, and many other relatives and friends.
Judy was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, caring neighbor, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
